Depth analysis: difference between glass wool and rock wool

2018-09-27

1. Different raw materials and processes.

1. Production process of glass wool:

Centrifugal glass wool is a kind of glass as the main raw material and then mixed with other auxiliary materials in a certain proportion. After being melted in a glass furnace, the melted solution will flow out through a leaky plate and enter the centrifuge. Driven by a high-speed centrifuge, the centrifuge swings the glass into a glass stream at high speed. Under the action of high-temperature and high-speed flame, the glass stream is further stretched into fibers, and then spray binder is applied. Under the action of negative pressure wind of the cotton net belt, the fibers adhering to resin binder settle on the moving net belt. A uniform cotton felt is formed, and then cured by a constant temperature curing furnace to complete the curing process. The product is finalized. After finalization, the product is cut into a predetermined product and then packaged.

2. Rock wool products are a new type of lightweight insulation material made from fine basalt as the main raw material, melted at high temperature, inorganic fibers made from high-speed centrifugal equipment, special binder and dust-proof oil through swing tape matting and special equipment to change the fiber arrangement structure, and finally cured and finalized. According to different uses, it can be processed into rock wool board, rock wool sewing felt, rock wool shell and other products.

Two, product performance is different

Glass wool has lower bulk density, less slag ball content, low thermal conductivity, long service life, and high fiber toughness than rock wool, but the highest use temperature of rock wool is about 600 degrees Celsius, glass wool is only about 260 degrees Celsius.

Three, product uses are different.

Glass wool is generally used for insulation parts below 200 degrees Celsius, mostly for general buildings or low-temperature pipes insulation, rock wool is generally used for the temperature of 500 degrees Celsius insulation parts, mostly for high-temperature thermal pipes or power equipment insulation.
